Roland Marchal is senior research fellow at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), based at the Center for International Researches (CERI/Sciences-Po, Paris). He was the chief editor of the French academic quarterly, Politique africaine, from 2002 to 2006. He has been researching and publishing on the conflicts and politics in Africa with a focus on the Horn and central Africa. He has also taught at Sciences Po Paris, Paris I Sorbonne, Northwestern, Columbia University, and other universities in Latin America and Asia.
