DarfurA roundtable discussion with Jérí´me Tubiana, Senior Analyst, International Crisis Group & Claudio Gramizzi, Small Arms Survey
Wednesday, 26 February 2014, 1PM

In a series of reports “Sudan’s Spreading Conflict”, the International Crisis Group looks at Sudan’s peripheral at wars. The first two reports draw attention to the very violent war that resumed in South Kordofan and Blue Nile in 2011.

The latest report “the limits of Darfur’s peace process”, focuses on the Darfur agreement, the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.

This roundtable will discuss ongoing conflicts in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile, the peace process in Sudan in the context of decreasing international attention on Sudan’s internal crisis since the secession of South Sudan in 2011, and growing armed and unarmed opposition to the Sudanese government.

Jérí´me Tubiana is Sudan Senior Analyst at International Crisis Group. Since 2004, he worked as a researcher specializing mostly on conflict in Darfur as well as other parts of Sudan (South Kordofan and Blue Nile) and South Sudan, for various NGOs, most notably ICG and the Small Arms Survey, as well as for the USIP (United States Institute of Peace), the African Union-United Nations Joint Mediation Support Team (JMST) for Darfur and the United Nations Security Council Panel on the Sudan. He is author of various articles and books, notably “Chroniques du Darfour” (Glénat, 2010).

Claudio Gramizzi is an independent researcher who focuses on weapons flows and arms conflicts in Africa. In addition to experience gathered while working with European non-governmental organizations including GRIP (Belgium) and Saferworld (UK), he served until 2011 as an arms expert and consultant on UN Panels of Experts in Cí´te d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Sudan. During the past couple of years, he focused most his research on conflicts in the Sudan (Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile).
