Habib Badawi

Habib Badawi is Professor of International Relations at the Lebanese University, Beirut, specializing in African Studies, geoeconomics, and global security. His research examines how African states and regional actors leverage geography, resources, and strategic chokepoints to shape international order. He has published widely on private military contractors, proxy warfare, and African agency in global governance, with recent work analyzing China’s security expansion in Africa, the Wagner Group’s operations, and shifting patterns of sovereignty and accountability. His scholarship situates African dynamics within the evolving contest of great‑power competition and hegemonic transition.
